Homesteading....anyone?

Wikipedia defines 'Homesteading' as a lifestyle of self-sufficiency. It is characterized by subsistence agriculture, home preservation of foodstuffs, and it may or may not also involve the small scale production of textiles, clothing, and craftwork for household use or sale.
...Many also choose to plant and grow heirloom vegetables and to raise heritage livestock. Homesteading is not defined by where someone lives, such as the city or the country, but by the lifestyle choices they make. [1]
This definition resonates to me, a path to freedom towards self-sufficiency. The goal is to reduce our family's environmental impact by practicing home-based, family-centered and self-sufficient way of life.

Who doesn't love the commercially-prepared, high-end products like food cosmetics and others from the heavenly malls? Most of them my friend are 'chemically-laden' if not, the 'organic' or 'all natural' ones costs an arm and leg. Living in Klamath Falls gave me a new perspective in life. So okay, not all of my fave stores are here, but hey, there is the internet. You can buy anything over-the-net. And my friendly neighborhood mailman delivers these goodies at my doorstep.

I made a decision for 2015. Not too late for new resolutions for the year. I will explore doing 'DIY Projects'. I will start with home-remedies. My hubby who is a medicine man is shaking his head. He does understand the chemistry and science behind it. I am more of tradition. I just recently been certified as a 'Cuarandera' and would love to prepare these natural remedies.

Next, beauty products. For many years, I have been seduced by commercialism on creams, lotions and potions. I am now making mine at a fraction of a cost with all the REAL GOOD STUFF. I do not have to put unnecessary ingredients that I do not specifically need. Savings!!!

Food preserving is on my list too. All of these DIY projects are to provide my family better and healthier products. My first step to homesteading. Who is with me?

If you are interested to learn, share, teach these crafts...please connect with me. I would really want to organize a group that supports this. I recently affiliated with Mountain Rose Herbs and would be able to help you in your oils, herbs and spice needs. Their store is online, but I am local and would share whatever knowledge I have on oils and herbs.

So fresh that smiles are guaranteed
