Lesson 4 - Types of Coupons

So you have coupons....let us identify each one of them based on source.

1. Manufacturers Coupons - these are the ones you clipped from the newspaper inserts, you peel them off the product or you cut it from the box/packaging of the product, you find them in dispensers by the product shelf in the store, or emailed to you if you signed up for the store's or products newsletter. To make it easy, it says 'Manufacturers Coupon' somewhere on it. When you cut the coupon, make sure that you do not cut thru the barcode and the expiration date or the store will not accept your coupon.

Manufacturers coupon may also be printed from your computer. CLICK HERE TO GET COUPONS. Make sure that you get a clear print out of the coupon. Barcodes, expiration date, etc can be read -- in short, do not print when you are low on ink. No need to print in color, fast or draft type printing in black and white is fine.

2. Store Coupons - these are coupons issued by the store.  Example, Fred Meyers have this counter by the entrance with their Ads or you find it as part of your Sunday newspaper. Store coupons will have the store logo. They have their own sale and it pays to be get a REWARDS card from the store as it gives you extra discount or points/rewards.

This is important: You can combine a Manufacturers Coupon and a Store Coupon. This is where you get extra savings :)   When you coupon, you watch out for this combinations. You want to buy items when it is on sale and you have a manufacturers coupon and store coupon.  THIS IS WHAT YOU WANT TO DO. This is the basic of 'extreme couponing'.

3. E-coupons - these are coupons that you are not in paper form. Fred Meyers, Safeway for example will give you the option to clip coupons and add it to your REWARDS CARD. What this means to you is that you can shop without your paper coupons and when you put in your Rewards Card, the discount is taken off from your bill.

4. Catalinas - these are the coupons that spits out of the cashier's machine after you pay for your purchase. These are usually Manufacturers Coupon that you can use on your next shopping.
